Frequently asked questions

  • Why does every dog begin with a Welcome Session?

Because every dog deserves a patient introduction. A mobile gym and Slatmill are unfamiliar to most dogs. We give your dog time to look, sniff, listen, step inside, and become comfortable before asking them to move.

  • How does the Slatmill work? Will my dog be made to run?

The Slatmill is powered by your dog, not a motor. It moves when your dog moves and stops when your dog stops. Some dogs love to run. Others prefer a steady walk. We stay beside your dog, helping them understand the equipment and find a comfortable pace. We guide and encourage them, but we never force a dog to run.

  • Are nervous or reactive dogs welcome?

Yes. Nervous and reactive dogs are welcome. For some dogs, that is exactly why a mobile gym makes sense. They may not be comfortable at a dog park, on a busy sidewalk, or around unfamiliar dogs. We come to their driveway and give them a quieter, more controlled place to move with individual attention.

  • What if my dog does not walk or run during the Welcome Session?

That is okay. A Welcome Session will look a little different for every dog. For one dog, it may be a comfortable walk. For another, entering the gym, exploring the space, placing their paws on the Slatmill, or taking a few steps may be meaningful progress.

  • Does my dog have to be high-energy or already athletic?

No. Some dogs arrive eager to run. Others benefit from a steady walk, a dependable routine, individual attention, or simply a comfortable place to move. High-energy dogs are welcome, but Happy Dogs Run Mobile is not about wearing a dog out.

  • What if my dog is older or has a health or mobility concern?

Older dogs are welcome. We adjust the pace and amount of exercise to the dog in front of us. Please tell us about any injury, illness, medication, surgery, recent veterinary care, or mobility limitation before your dog's session.

  • How is my dog cared for during the session?

We stay beside your dog throughout the session and pay attention to their movement, breathing, body language, comfort, and energy. Sessions are led by a Certified Canine Conditioning Fitness Coach with Red Cross Pet First Aid and CPR certification. The mobile gym is climate-controlled, with fresh water and first-aid supplies available.

  • Can two dogs from the same household participate together?

Yes. Our two-dog RunClub option allows both dogs from the same household to participate during the same shared 30-minute session. Each dog completes a Welcome Session before joining RunClub.

  • How do I get started?

Send us a Welcome Session request with information about your dog, your address, and the time of day that generally works best for you. We will check your location and preferred time against the current route and contact you with an available date and time.
