Frequently asked questions
-
What is UpDog Gym?
UpDog Gym is a mobile dog gym that brings fitness right to your doorstep. Our trained coaches provide your dog with a safe, customized workout in a climate-controlled environment using specialized, low-impact, non-motorized slat treadmills specifically designed for dogs.
-
How does the dog treadmill work?
UpDog Gym uses specialized European slat treadmills (slatmills) which have no motor. They are completely dog-powered, so your dog can speed up, slow down, or stop whenever they want. Slatmills are equipped with tethers to secure your dog safely with a harness.
-
What types of dogs can use UpDog Gym?
UpDog caters to dogs of all sizes and fitness levels. Big or small, young or silver pawed, almost any dog can benefit from an UpDog Gym session. Our coaches have decades of experience with all breeds, ages and temperaments.
-
How long are the fitness sessions?
Standard sessions are 30 minutes long. Extended sessions are available for dogs with increased stamina. Dogs just getting started often require rest and/or water breaks during the session as they build endurance and stamina.
-
Do I need to be present during the sessions?
During your dog's first few sessions you should be present to encourage and support your dog. Once your dog is comfortable, our coaches can provide fitness sessions at your convenience. Some customers attend all sessions while others appreciate the option of allowing their pet to have activity while they are away.
-
How do I book a session?
See our contact page for ways to get in touch with us, or click the 'Book Now' button at the top of the page.
-
What if my dog has special needs or health concerns?
Just let us know about any special needs or health concerns when booking your first session. Please consult your veterinarian regarding any health issues before scheduling fitness sessions. Our trained coaches will make every effort to accommodate your dog's needs.
-
Is this service available in my area?
UpDog Gym fitness sessions are currently available in the Eugene-Oregon area. Please contact us for more information about your specific location or franchising opportunities.
-
What do I need to provide for the session?
Just your dog! We provide all necessary equipment to make your dog's fitness session safe and engaging.
-
How do you provide a safe environment for my dog?
Safety is our top priority. Our trained coaches are highly experienced with handling dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages and temperaments. All slatmills are imported from Bulgaria and top-of-the-line. Mobile gym has A/C, heater, ventilation, dehumidifier and air purifier. Only dogs from same household permitted at once. Dogs are leashed entering/exiting and secured via harness on slatmill. Equipment sanitized between clients.
-
Can I schedule recurring sessions?
Absolutely! We offer several convenient options to schedule single appointments or recurring appointments based on your dog's needs and your schedule.
-
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all common payment methods including cash, check, credit/debit cards, and mobile wallet payments.
-
How do I get started with training?
We start with a paid, virtual consultation that lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. This allows us to discuss your goals in depth and create your training plan. The first meeting will take place without your dog.
-
How does billing work for training?
Individual lessons are billed hourly upon lesson completion (due same day). A nonrefundable deposit is required to secure board train dates based on overall length of booking request.
-
How long is a typical board train?
Our board train programs range from 2 weeks to several months depending on the age of the dog and program goals. Most programs for pet puppies or dogs are 3-4 weeks while service dogs or more refractory cases can vary greatly.
-
What age does a puppy need to be to begin a board train program?
Dogs of all ages are accepted. Puppies should be at least 8 weeks of age. Exceptions are made for puppies that have been rescued at under 8 weeks.
-
Are there any breeds that are excluded from the board train program?
No. All breeds are welcome. We do require an initial session in order to meet/greet every dog and determine if a board train program would be the right fit for their needs/goals.
-
Do you work with aggressive or reactive dogs?
Yes. We offer both private in-person sessions as well as board training options for aggression/reactivity. An in person evaluation is required first to determine which program format is best suited for their needs.
-
Where are private in-person sessions held?
Private sessions take place in your home or in locations suited for your specific training goals. Leash walking or off leash manners may begin in your yard or home but may also be practiced in neighborhoods, parks, public spaces, etc.
-
Where does my dog stay during a board train program?
Our board train program takes place in our trainer's home. Your dog will not spend all day in a noisy kennel. They will be incorporated into the daily household routine with structured supervision, play, training and rest breaks. Dogs are crated overnight, for meals and never left unsupervised.
